Passionate. Hard-working. Fun-loving. Often guilty of a hot temper. Compassionate toward the fatherless, impatient toward those who exploit them. In his lesser moments, he's guilty of trying to be a savior to the boys.
BARTHOLOMEW. 18-36. Lonely. Ashamed of his situation, but patient with those who shame him for it. Years later, he returns to visit Fr. Bosco as an adult. No longer lonely. Loves his wife, his children and his faith. Eager to give back since he was given so much. Actor must be able to play BOTH teenage and adult versions of this character. Light Italian dialect.
JESUS. 30's. Ethereal. Calm. Fervent. Middle-Eastern dialect.
Set in his ways. Lacks compassion.
Loyal. Patient. Humble. Always helping, always hiding from recognition for his good works. Close friend to Bosco who keeps him honest.
Outspoken, friendly to all. Devoted to the efforts of the Oratory and the other boys in it. Keen to be involved. Passionate about music. Actor must be able to play BOTH teenage and adult versions of this character.
Sensitive. Passionate. Longs to bring others to God. Saddened by the loss of his father.
MARGHERITA. 30-60 years old. Devoted, hard-working single mother. Won't put up with nonsense. Always fair. Loves to serve just as her son does.
MARY. 30's. Ethereal. Calm. Fervent.
Young man of few words. Lost and troubled by the loss of his father and brother.
Revolutionary politician. Talks big, but cowardly. Views the youth of Italy as weapons to be used against the rich.
