Overview

Vincent de Paul

France. 1594. Life for peasant farmers in rural France is a hopeless routine of hard work, little food, and poor health, made worse by oppressive taxes, war, and raids by Muslim pirates from North Africa who enslave the Catholic inhabitants of coastal towns. Young Vincent de Paul, surrounded by two brothers and two sisters, dreams of a way out of his miserable existence. This is the story of Saint Vincent de Paul.

An original audio drama by The Merry Beggars.

Decide! Determine which show you will be auditioning for by choosing from the list on our audition page. Then, look through the character breakdowns and choose which character you'd like to audition for. You can audition for multiple roles.

Sides! Within the dropdown for each character description, you'll find downloadable PDFs of the audition sides for that character. Download the sides. Review the sides until you are familiar with them and comfortable performing them.

Hide! Next, set up your space. Find a quiet space and prepare to record your audition using whatever recording software is available to you. This can be done on your phone if access to a studio or home-recording equipment is limited. Please record only your own lines, not those of the other characters in the scene(s).

Recording

MP3 audio recordings preferred. Video auditions will be accepted if you can't record audio-only.

If recording your audition as a video, please ensure that you're in a quiet environment with a neutral background. If recording your audition as audio, please send raw audio with no special effects or music. We'd prefer not to hear a reader reading with you, and there's no need for you to read other characters' lines.

We prefer auditions with no "reader" - just you reading the lines for the role you're auditioning for. You can leave a natural break where the lines of the other character(s) would be.

Delivery

Deadline: Friday, June 20, 5pm CT

Please slate prior to each side: "Your Name, Character, Side #". Each character should be recorded separately and uploaded as its own mp3 file. Please label your files CHARACTER NAME-Your Name-Side#s (Your Location)

Ex: (INSERT CHARACTER NAME)-Actor Name-Sides1&2 (Chicago)
