Themes include seeking God’s presence in the midst of the world, resisting peer pressure while friends are indulging in worldly pleasures, and the importance of community. Saint Benedict’s journey follows him from Rome to Nursia, where he founds a new monastic community. The series shows that seeking God and detaching from worldly pursuits is always worthwhile.
Some elements of intensity include plots from rebellious monks to poison Saint Benedict, monks who do not want to live a disciplined spiritual life, and a corrupt priest who is jealous of Benedict. There are characters who reject the spiritual life and want to only pursue worldly entertainment and pleasure. The destruction of pagan statues at the end of the series may be intense for younger listeners.
