Valentine governs the church in Terni in a time of peace, teaching and bringing people closer to God. When persecutions begin, Valentine demonstrates virtues of Courage, Prudence, and Humility. He trusts in God, counseling Chrysanthus and Daria, a young married couple, to do the same.
This series contains moments of intensity, raised voices, and references to violence. A character makes unwanted advances on another character. Christians are jailed for their faith, and their off-screen torture is referenced. Off-screen deaths are referenced. A character dies from wounds received off-screen. Several atheistic characters speak slightingly of the faith.
