France. 1798. Torn apart by the bloody revolution, France’s people suffer in poverty. Their Catholic faith is outlawed, and they are desperate for help. Some join the navy in hopes of a better life, but life in the navy takes fathers from their families. And some will never return. On the docks of a small coastal town, one young girl waits for her father to come back home. This is the story of Jeanne Jugan.

Jeanne is a role model of charity. She sees the injustice and poverty of the world and steadfastly works to care for those in need. She cares for the sick, shelters the homeless, and begs for alms for the poor, even at personal cost. She remains hopeful through loss and delay, and her humility guides her actions. She embraces service and through it, her faith and generosity grow.
This series contains moments of danger and intensity, including raised voices. Characters face death from illness, abandonment, and poverty; a woman describes a fatal tumor; a man strikes Jeanne; and authority figures unjustly remove her from leadership and obscure her role as a founder.
